A Plea from West Side Patrol Officers: Lock Your Cars!

In 2017, there were over 11,000 thefts from autos, 90% of them occurring when car doors were left unlocked.  In addition to this alarming statistic, 26 guns were stolen from cars, again most with doors unlocked.  These weapons are now in the hands of criminals who can use them to perpetrate violate crimes in our community.  Police urge residents to:

-Lock any recent purchases (Christmas shopping, etc) out of sight in the trunk

-Lock any valuables (phones, laptops, purses) out of sight or take them with you

-Always lock car doors when leaving the vehicle, even when it is in your driveway, even during daylight hours
